HITECH EMR Meaningful Use Tip Sheet

Written by Kaitlyn Houseman | Jan 12, 2013 8:32:00 PM

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has received numerous questions regarding Specialists meeting the EHR Meaningful Use (MU) criteria to either receive the bonus payments or avoid the penalties.  In response to those inquiries, CMS has created a "Tipsheet" to provide some insights and suggestions on how Specialists can meet the Meaningful Use criteria.

In preparing these resources, CMS recognized that not every MU measure applies to every provider type participating in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs. To help specialty providers successfully meet meaningful use measure requirements and navigate the EHR Incentive Programs, CMS created the Meaningful Use for Specialists Tipsheet.
Topics covered in the tip sheet include:

  • Reporting measure exclusions;
  • Using other providers' data;
  • Determining office visits for applicable measures; and
  • Applying for a hardship exemption.

The tip sheet also includes links to resources that can help specialists successfully participate in the EHR Incentive Programs. For additional information that you or your clients might find useful, you can also visit the Educational Resources page on the EHR Incentive Programs website.
