eCW Supports OpenNotes Enabling Clinicians to Share Visit Notes

eClinicalWorks®, a leader in healthcare IT solutions, announced that it now supports OpenNotes, an international movement dedicated to making healthcare more open and transparent. The news supports enabling clinicians to easily share visit notes with patients using the eClinicalWorks Patient Portal. More than 130,000 providers using eClinicalWorks will now have the ability to share notes with their patients, with the goal of building stronger patient-provider relationships and empowering them to take control and be more confident in their healthcare decisions.

“We’re pleased that eClinicalWorks now gives clinicians the option to share visit notes with their patients,” said Homer Chin, MD, MS, OpenNotes Health Information Technology Associate. “This flexibility shows a commitment to transparency as our country’s healthcare system continues to evolve.”

By supporting OpenNotes, the eClinicalWorks cloud-based solution will help to improve the quality of care delivered. Together, the technologies will provide patients with new insight and enhanced access to their care, while encouraging them to participate in clinical decision making in their healthcare journey. While the eClinicalWorks Patient Portal always had the ability to provide Visit Summary access to the patients, OpenNotes capability complements the Patient Portal and further enhances these summaries to make them more complete.

“eClinicalWorks is committed to supporting stronger relationships between patients and clinicians and improving Patient Engagement,” said Girish Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “eClinicalWorks remains dedicated to enhancing access to healthcare and making it more open and transparent. We believe that adding OpenNotes functionality will improve the healthcare experience for patients and is vital for the future of healthcare delivery.”

About OpenNotes
OpenNotes is a national movement dedicated to making health care more open and transparent by encouraging doctors, nurses, therapists, and others to share their visit notes with patients through a secure, patient portal, giving patients easier access to important medical information they already have the legal right to receive. The goal is to empower patients, families, and caregivers to feel more in control of their health care decisions, and to improve the quality and safety of care. The movement to make ready access to visit notes the standard of care for all patients is supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the Peterson Center on Healthcare and Cambia Health Foundation.
