Recapping the 2019 eClinicalWorks National Conference

Written by Sydney Powell | October 25, 2019

This year the 2019 National Conference hosted by eClinicalWorks® took place in Orlando, Florida, from October 18th-20th. With 4,500 in attendance and another 4,500 tuning in online, the event was sold out. With hands-on product training and over 100 educational sessions on things like MIPS, population health, Messenger, telehealth, it’s no wonder why. The National Conference is a time when new eClinicalWorks features and enhancements are announced, so we sent some of our team to Florida to check it out! Here’s what we gathered from this year's eClinicalWorks National Conference.

Continued Commitment to Nationwide Interoperability

Interoperability has long been a buzzword when it comes to electronic health records and in recent years, has even been touted as one of the biggest EHR challenges by hospital and health system executives. On Friday, October 18th, eClinicalWorks announced its continued commitment to nationwide interoperability, stating that in just the past year, 2,000 eClinicalWorks practices have enabled the capability to join the Carequality Interoperability Framework and the CommonWell Health Alliance nationwide network and exchange data with other clinicians nationwide. The free on-demand self-service option in eClinicalWorks is making it easier for eClinicalWorks users to overcome common interoperability challenges and ensure complete and accurate information at the point of care.

“By making CommonWell services available to all of their customers, eClinicalWorks is providing its clinicians and our healthcare system a huge advantage in delivering optimal care,” said Jitin Asnaani, Executive Director of CommonWell Health Alliance. “By having access to health data, irrespective of geography, clinician or health system, clinicians, practitioners, and individuals are empowered to help improve care coordination, the patient experience, and health outcomes.”

eClinicalWorks Customer Wins 2019 CPC+ Practice of the Year Award

Among the announcements at the eClinicalWorks Users Conference was one of congratulations. The Family Clinic, Inc, located in Louisiana, received the 2019 CPC+ Practice of the Year award this past May during the 2019 CPC+ National Meeting after being nominated by peers. Comprehensive Primary Care Plus (CPC+) is a national advanced primary care medical home model that aims to strengthen primary care through regional-based multi-payer payment reform and care delivery transformation.

The CPC+ initiative is designed to improve care delivery, affecting better health for populations and lower healthcare costs in the United States. The Family Clinic worked with eClinicalWorks to maximize the integrated solutions with the EHR to empower providers to achieve better risk stratifications, close gaps in care, provide timely and comprehensive patient care, and ultimately aim to improve outcomes.

The Future of Healthcare is a Connected System

eClinicalWorks is also celebrating 20 years of providing industry-leading healthcare IT this year. The company continues to enjoy strong growth by leading the way in developing innovative solutions for the challenges customers face each day for better documentation, faster workflows, a deeper understanding of Population Health, and reducing the risks of physician burnout.”

There was a strong emphasis on physician burnout and what we can do to reduce burnout and ultimately provide a better patient experience and better care. Reducing burnout means recognizing the role of the EHR in burnout and making changes that reduce clicks and administrative burdens. One way of doing this is with the new Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) button in eCW. This button now takes you directly to your state’s PDMP from any screen where you prescribe in eClinicalWorks.

Other features like the tracking board, save and view on new appointments, do not allow placeholders on Progress Note, display alerts in progress note, office visit patient filter (view appt), and show insurance in-office visit must be enabled by support.

Other ways of addressing burnout include Scribe, which is touted for being a time-saver when it comes to documentation. Physicians can easily leverage speech-enabled technology to eliminate manual data entry and save time. eCW University is also expanding and providing self-guided interactive learning and training so that end users can use the software in a better way.

“For 20 years, eClinicalWorks has provided industry-leading healthcare IT to help medical practices of every size and specialty provide safe, high-quality care to every patient,” said Girish Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. This year’s conference wasn’t quite as packed with announcements about new features like last year's 2018 National Conference. Instead, it seemed to focus on how proper utilization of a connected EHR system like eClinicalWorks can lead to improved patient engagement, fewer administrative burdens, and enhanced patient care.
